How To Play a File in VLC
Open the File menu, and click the “Quick Open File” option. When the dialogue box appears, pick which file you’d like to open and click “Open.” The file will begin to play.
You can also simply drag and drop your file onto the playlist window or main interface.




How to Play a DVD, CD or VCD in VLC
Click on “File” and choose “Open Disc” from the drop down menu. Select the media type (DVD, VCD or Audio CD).
To enable the DVD’s menu, select “DVD” if you’re using wxWidgets Interface. If you’re using the MacOS X interface, choose the “Use DVD menus” dialogue box.
How To Play a Network Stream (such as WebTV) in VLC
Open the “File” menu and click “Open Network Stream”
To begin the stream, select “OK”
If your stream is shuffling, try increasing the size of the read buffer. Click “Open Network Stream” and select “Caching.” Choose the amount of time you’d like for VLC to store data before it begins playback.


How To Add, Save, And Load Playlists in VLC Player
If you’re using the wxWidgets interface, you can append files, save playlists or import playlist files in the “Manage” menu.
If you’re using the MacOS X interface, you can save a playlist by going to the “file” menu and selecting the “Save Playlist” option. If you want to import a playlist file, you would use the “Quick Open File” option, just as if importing any other type of file.
How To Sort Files Within A Playlist In VLC
Use the “Sort” option in the wxWidgets Interface to sort or shuffle files within a playlist. You can also click the header of the column to sort.
In the MacOS X interface, you can sort by clicking on the header column that contains the criteria you wish to sort.
What Playlist Modes Does VLC Have?
There are 3 playlist mode buttons in the wxWidgets interface – random mode, which will play files at random; repeat playlist, which will repeat the entire playlist; or repeat, which will repeat just one file.
The MacOS X interface contains all three modes as well (random, repeat playlist and repeat). To play in Random mode, select the “Random” box. For playlist and repeat modes, select the respective options from the drop down menu.
